Chem-Fix Adhesives

Description

Chem-Fix Adhesives are premium quality, durable, fast cure, flexible products for bonding ceramic, marble slate, stone or other rigid materials as well as Chemind Sound-Shield to sound substrates. They are formulated for use on areas subject to water, impact or movement and conform to Australian Standard requirements.

Uses

Chem-Fix Adhesives are designed to give optimum results in a variety of internal and external situations including floor or wall tiling, paving, timber flooring and acoustic flooring systems. They permanently bond designated materials to substrates as are detailed in Grades.

Systems for Total Project Specification

The rubberised structure resists vibration and differential substrate movement, reduces noise transmission and prevents de-bonding of tiles caused by tile growth or impact. Fully WARRANTED when used in conjunction with Chemind waterproofing membrane systems and Sound-Shield sound deadening system.

Chemind Chem-Fix Super provides added benefits in facilitating protective function of the waterproofing membrane system. It is easy to use and holds a firm bed profile.

Grades

Chem-Fix Acoustiflex

Designed to bond timber and parquetry to Chemind Sound-Shield acoustic underlay or concrete floors. It is also used to glue Sound-Shield Mat to concrete, timber, FC, CFC, cement render, and Chemind Aquagard M wet area membrane in external and internal areas of residential or commercial construction – wet areas, kitchens, living areas, balconies, etc.

Chem-Fix Super

Bonds ceramic tile or stone paving to all Chemind waterproofing membranes as well as to Sound-Shield Mat acoustic underlay. Used to adhere Sound-Shield acoustic underlay to Chemind Newflex or Aquagard water based rubber membranes. Suitable for CFC, FC, concrete, cement render, block, plaster board and timber in external and internal areas of residential or commercial construction - wet areas, kitchens, balconies, roof decks, pools, ramps, etc.

Chem-Fix Standard Grey and White

Bonds ceramic tile or stone paving to Chemind waterproofing membranes as well as to concrete, timber, CFC, FC, plaster board or cement render. Used residential and commercial construction - external or internal wet areas, kitchens, balconies, roof decks, ramps, etc.

Chemind Chem-Fix Liquid Polymer may be used to increase flexibility of the Chem-Fix adhesive bed.

NOTE

Chem-Fix adhesive type selection should be in consideration of any requirement by supplier of surfacing material for its specific installation needs or substrate preparation.

Typical Properties

Preparation

Concrete and render surfaces to be clean dry, fully cured and free from contaminants. Concrete to be pre-dampened for all except Acoustiflex. Timber to be nailed off and sealed with Chemind Epocote F100W Clear Sealer; seal wall sheets with Chemind Primer W. Chemind waterproof membrane should be clean, but otherwise are suitable for direct fix. Report any visible damage of waterproof membrane is to site supervisor.

Mixing

Where ratio mixing is required, take care to proportion materials accurately. Additions should be carried out as required for the product. Pot life of blended powder Chem-Fix products is approx. 1.0 to 1.5 hours. Use Acoustiflex directly from the container.

Application

Use an appropriate notched trowel to apply Chem-Fix adhesive to substrate.

Do not spread more than 1m² of adhesive at any one time.

Press surfacing firmly into position before adhesive skins, ensuring that it is well bedded with no voids beneath.

Allow 24 hours drying before flooring is subjected to traffic.

Grouting of tiles or paving can be carried out 24 hours after installation.

NOTE

Do not allow Chem-Fix adhesive to skin before installing surfacing material.

Non-porous substrates and surfacing materials will cause longer curing of the Chem-Fix adhesive.

Exercise care in using Chem-Fix adhesives as Acoustiflex is polyurethane based and powder types contain alkali. Please review all MSDS before use.

Clean Up

For Acoustiflex use Chemind GP Solvent or methylated spirits before curing. Use water for other Chem-Fix adhesives, before cured.

Shelf Life

Sealed pails of Acoustiflex have a shelf life of 6 months, but once opened will become solid within a few days. Other Chem-Fix adhesives will keep for 12 months if stored in a cool dry place in unopened containers.
