Darmet Flare Stack Radiant Heat Shields are made from long life high temperature materials for durability. Darchem Engineering has achieved an enviable reputation for utilizing internal thin foil technology thus allowing lightweight high thermal protection solutions to be achieved.

The unique design features of the Darmet shield ensures that heat is reflected while cooler air is drawn from the underside of the shield creating a 'steady state' situation, usually less than 100"C. Darmet shields are also self draining and corrosion resistant with a robust construction. Strength characteristics are designed to suit site parameters and span.

Panels are sized to suit installation convenience and supporting layout. Upper surface walkway grating is a standard feature.

Darmet Flare Stack Radiant Heat Shielding has been successfully installed on many platforms worldwide. The shields withstand direct flame impingement temperatures from flare stacks and can tolerate this severe thermal cycling without detriment to thermal performance and durability.

THE MESH SYSTEM

The Woven Wire Mesh Screen system was developed for lower heat flux levels. This system can be used also as a horizontal heat shield directly below the flare tip but is more commonly used for vertical heat shield protecting critical plant equipment, steelwork and personnel.

Each panel generally consists of a channel frame to which either 1 or 2 layers of 4 x 4 x 1.6 diameter woven wire mesh is attached across the frame. A steel load-bearing grating can be welded to the top edge of the frame a there is a load-bearing requirement. With this type of shield, we can achieve a 75.38% reduction in irradiance.

The Woven Wire Mesh System has excellent see-through properties and is naturally venting. Solid system barriers would prevent natural lighting and could trap gas, which may permeate from the adjacent process plant.

The psychological effect of closing in the area under protection could be problematic under operating conditions.
